First Bayou Christmas

First Christmas in the bayou of Louisiana – in our first ‘very own’ house – and I had a blast decorating.  My mom came to visit; we busted out some old decorations and scavenged Hobby Lobby and Target for some new.

Before my mom came I also did a couple DIY holiday projects.  A new wreath for our front door that we can keep throughout the year and interchange details by season/occasion.  I found it on a blog and have been envious of it since my Thanksgiving wreath project (had saved on my Pinterest “To Do List” board ever since).  Read more about the wreath project I emulated here on a precious blog called Shanty2Chic.  The snowflake and silver spray painted pine cones were a few touches I added for the Christmas season.

While wrapping gifts in my craft room I got a little side tracked and came up with a cute little way to display some of our Christmas cards.

I cut a tree out of leftover fabric samples I had from previous projects and hot glued the tree to a square of burlap.

Then glued the tree to a long rectangular piece of canvas I had leftover from who knows what…

Then tied three pine cones together at the bottom of the canvas (opposite end of the tree).

Then I displayed some of our Christmas cards using two attracting magnets per picture and hung it on the back door.  It’s a little hard to photograph because it’s so long, but here is the final product.

And now for a few pics of Christmas flare throughout our bayou abode this holiday season (purchased, not made).

I love the way Christmas decorations add a special cheer to your house this time of year, don’t you?

Merry Christmas to all y’all.  (Still have my Texas twang even in the bayou…) Remember to take a moment during the hustle bustle of the holidays to enjoy special family time and give thanks for the blessings He has given us all in 2011. God is good, isn’t He?  Much love from our home to yours…
